Tips for Planning a Family Ski Holiday

Step 1: Plan, Step 2: enjoy!

Planning a family ski holiday can seem daunting, but with a bit of preparation, it can be a stress-free experience. Here are our tips to help you plan the perfect family ski holiday:

  • It’s important to choose a destination that offers a variety of activities suitable for all family members, even those who aren’t skiing or snowboarding.
  • Choose a resort that suits the skills of the family. Ideally you want to have a mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced slopes. Beware that most resorts ‘tamper’ a bit so that it seems they have the perfect mix of green/blue/black slopes.
  • In our experience, it’s best to find accommodation that is conveniently located close to the main attractions, ski slopes, and ski school meeting points, ideally within walking distance. This will save you time and make it easier to move around with young children.
  • Research ski schools and childcare options if you have younger children. We would highly recommend booking ski lessons in advance.
  • Budget: Family friendly ski holidays are expensive, however by choosing the right resort and accomodation and planning a bit ahead the overall budget can be brought down significantly.
  • Another tip is to rent ski and snowboarding equipment in advance to save time and avoid crowds at rental shops.
  • Restaurants can get crowded during peak season or with large groups, so I recommend booking in advance to avoid long waits.
  • Packing for a ski holiday can be a daunting task, especially with (young) children. We recommend using a packing list to prevent forgetting the wintersport essentials.
  • When planning a family ski holiday, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of hitting the slopes. But it’s important to remember that there’s more to a ski trip than just skiing and snowboarding. Taking time to relax and have fun with your loved ones is just as important. This is especially true if you’re traveling with young children who may not be ready for a full day of skiing.

By following these tips, our family has been able to plan and enjoy many memorable family ski holidays, and I hope they will help you plan your next family ski adventure.
